Mastering Concertos Conducting Masterclass
Learn the Art of Conducting Orchestra With Soloist
Conducting an orchestra with soloist is among the most daunting challenges conductors face. Recognizing that opportunities to develop the skills needed to accompany a soloist were few and far between, Maestros Gutter and Gambetta created the Mastering Concertos Conducting Masterclass in 2016. This remarkable, one-of-a-kind course for conductors and soloists combines daily instruction from world-class master teachers with practical experience conducting concertos with professional orchestra and soloist.
Curriculum and Tuition
The Institute will accept up to 8 conductors for the Mastering Concertos Conducting Masterclass. After acceptance the conducting faculty will use conductor and soloist videos to assign each conductor 2 concertos from the accepted soloists’ repertoire. The conductor curriculum includes six 20-minute instructional sessions with orchestra and soloist, six 15-minute instructional sessions with soloist and piano accompaniment, 20 minutes of video review with the conducting faculty plus a general rehearsal and a concert performance of up to two movements (depending on length) from the two concertos studied during the course. The Institute faculty will also give seminars focusing on score study and transposition, daily Embodied Conducting℠ instruction and a special round table discussion for students and faculty about the challenges and rewards of collaboration between conductors and soloists. The $2,895 US tuition also covers the cost of a private hotel room with breakfast.
Outstanding Conductor & Soloist Awards
The Mastering Concertos Conducting Masterclass faculty may award a professional return engagement with the Vidin Sinfonietta during the following season to one outstanding conductor and soloist. Award recipients are responsible for travel expenses; hotel accommodations are provided by the Sinfonietta.
