The “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic Bacau

The “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic of Bacau will host the Advanced Conducting Academy, the Institute’s flagship program, for the 18th year in 2022. This partnership began in 2003, and it has grown stronger and deeper with each passing year. Founded in 1956, this highly regarded professional orchestra maintains a cadre of 75 talented musicians. The Philharmonic’s list of accomplishments includes a successful American concert tour and extensive tours in Europe and Asia including concerts in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Russia, South Korea and China. Consistently rewarded with critical and public acclaim, the Philharmonic is a busy working orchestra, presenting more than 100 concerts a year.

The orchestra’s repertoire includes a broad palette of symphonic and chamber music from a large variety of periods and musical styles. For many years it has been invited to accompany semifinalists and finalists at important international competitions for piano and violin. Recognized for its remarkable artistic quality, the Philharmonic has released recordings with various companies in Europe including Electrecord (Romania), Edi Pan, Musica Insieme (Italy), Cadence Music Production (Germany), Nuova Era and Metier (EU). The orchestra most recently completed a new cycle of Music Minus One recordings featuring over 140 opera arias in 2010.

The Vidin State Sinfonietta

The International Institute for Conductors welcomed the Vidin State Sinfonietta as host orchestra for its remarkable Mastering Concertos course for conductors and soloists in 2016. One of four regional orchestras in Bulgaria officially recognized and financed by the Ministry of Culture, it has long been a leading cultural institution in Vidin, and it is the only fully professional symphony orchestra in the northwest region of Bulgaria.

The orchestra has its own space for concerts and other activities located in the center of city that includes a 320-seat concert hall plus additional more intimate performance spaces. In addition to a full season of concerts in Vidin and international tours in the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia and Spain, the Vidin Sinfonietta appears regularly at regional festivals, music competitions, anniversary concerts and charity performances.

The Prelude Academy Strings covered a tremendous amount of material in a very short time. I am very appreciative of their hard work and how faithfully they followed us.

What an orchestra! No other comparable workshop has an orchestra of this quality that follows so well.

  • 2019 Mastering Concertos soloist

The orchestra was disciplined and played impeccably in tune–both strings and winds alike. It was a pleasure to conduct the group!
